Brain Surgery For Weight Loss

Mother of two, Carol Poe, 60, from West Virginia in the United States, underwent drastic brain surgery to help her fight her obesity problems. Mrs Poe, who at one time weighed 490 pounds (around 35 stone) is only 5 ft 2 in in height was termed as ideal for the surgery, by West Virginia University Hospital who carried out the surgery, after plenty of failed weight loss diets and programs and also a failed stomach stapling operation.

Surgeons drilled deep into the area of Mrs Poe’s brain that controls the stomach and inserted wires carrying an electrical impulse which linked to two pacemaker devices that were also implanted in her chest. Over the next up-and-coming months the voltage going into Mrs Poe’s brain will be increased, giving her a feeling of being full and not wanting to eat because the brain is telling the stomach it is satisfied and full.

Since the operation, Mrs Poe has lost 3 pounds, but this is very early days and the full measurement to see if the operation has been a success won’t be taken for a few months yet. Mrs Poe said about the operation, “”When I eat, I get full faster. I just don’t have the cravings like I used to have.”
