55 million people are on a diet or doing some type of weight loss program at any one time in America and Britain, most will fail after the first week, this is a sad fact. Many people set their goals too high and simply give up, if you are going to diet pick one that is suited to your body needs, this is the first step in a successful diet.

In today’s society we all want the perfect figure, men and women, that’s why more and more people are turning to slimming aids. There are many products on the market to help you with weight loss from tablets to wraps.

Today we will look at slimming pills, these have had a bad reputation, this is because many of the pills that were developed 30-40 years ago were mainly amphetamine type, which took doctors years to find out they were very addictive and harmful.

With today’s pills they can fall into 3 categories, increased energy, appetite suppressants and inhibitors (these stops digestion and absorption of some food).

Increased energy pills, these help our bodies burn up energy, these are the tablets that scientists have had the most problems with, but when they develop a successful energy burn tablet it will need to pass a mountainous of tests first to comply with strict Health Regulations.

Appetite suppressants contain a chemical that tells your brain you are full after eating something (these pills don’t starve you) they influence the chemicals in you brain called noradrenaline and serotonin. Appetite suppressant pills when used with a diet or weight loss program will help you lose the most weight. These pills are not wonder pills they will not lose you any weight unless you cut your food consumption down and exercise.

The other type of pill inhibits the enzyme lipases which is responsible for the breakdown and absorption of the fat in the food that we eat. As with all medication and tablets you should speak to your local GP or dietician first before starting on any slimming pill course.
