They say the older you get the faster the days seem to go, well we are now into another month, that’s another closer to the Christmas ‘party season’. As we all know the Summer can take its toll on our bodies, holidays, late night drinks in the garden and the usual bbq’s.

Now is the time to lose those extra pounds and be able to fit into that sexy little party dress of favourite pair of jeans. As we are all aware it’s a minefield when it comes to weight loss, different companies telling you that their tablets and potions are the best, which do you pick, who’s IS the best?

We at Weight Loss Now take this very seriously and will take the guess work out of weight loss by reviewing each product and ‘telling the truth’. Obesity is a real epidemic that is spreading across our nation, if we don’t act now we will be heading for serious problems such as heart disease, throat and liver cancer and diabetes type 1 and 2. The thing is most of these can be stopped or reversed if we take control of our weight loss. So whether its Alli, Zantrex-3 and Xenadrine – EFX we will be reviewing them all.

As we are all aware there is a epidemic spreading across this land of ours, I am not talking about the common cold or swine flu I am talking about obesity. In the last few years the number of obese people has spiralled out of control, this is now costing the national health service billions of pounds every year. This condition is not subject to any age group, race or gender it doesn’t care who it affects, obesity is a condition that does not happen over night in-fact obesity takes shape over a long period of time.

Being a Dad, I know just how tough it is to keep my boy’s hand out of the cookie jar or reach for a chocolate bar instead of an apple. His lack of enthusiasm about going down the park and kicking a ball about is frightening plus its only recently that he got back on his bike – a bike that has sat idle, shining like a new shilling, since he received it last christmas day. So, when I read headlines about weight loss camps for children doubling their intake – it doesn’t suprise me in the slightest, but it does get me thinking…

fat-kids-campThe fact that parents (and plenty of them) are willing to fork out between £3,500 and £8,000 to send their kids to a British ‘fat camp’ for the majority of the summer holidays shows just how desperate these families have become.

It’s easy to say fast food, television, computers and electronic console games are destroying our childrens health. But chew over this fact for a bit : By the time a child is ready to start primary school, one in six of them will be overweight and parents mistake obesity in their child for what is lightly termed as ‘puppy fat’. What is also worth considering is that ‘families on poor income’ have a higher risk of raising an obese child and this rate is growing, rapidly.

Education seems to be the key, more information about eating fruit and veg, proper excercise and more parental interaction with their kids is a positive start. Look, if we don’t start trying to communicate and educate our children about weight gain – even at very early years – we are going to see more ‘fat camps’ spread all over the UK.

We are constantly being told to ‘lose weight, don’t eat that its bad for you’ (this blog post is no different), forever being reminded about the damage of being overweight can do to your heart, liver, kidneys, not to mention underlying problems such as diabetes and sleeping problems. However, there is one area of our bodies that gets overlooked when it comes to weight issues – our eyesight.

eyesight-weight-problemsMany people are unaware of associating eyesight problems with their diets. When they undertake a new weight loss program, a lot of the ‘bad’ foods which we bin for a healthier diet, often contain the nutrients that help keep our eyes functioning properly.

Foods which are very good for helping and maintaining good eyesight are as follows :

* Vitamin A, this is found in foods such as liver, meats, milk, cheese and eggs, this vitamin or retinal palmitate is then converted to retinol which helps your eyes function correctly. Vitamin A can also help another eye condition, glaucoma this serious condition is caused when some of the cells at the back of the eye become damaged or lost, if this condition is left untreated you will lose your sight completely. This disease is more common in people in the 40 -50 age group and as we get older our bodies produce less of the chemical retinol so it is important to replace as much as possible.

* Omega 3, this has been proven by several top Ophthalmologists to lower the pressure in the eyes by at least 10%, high pressure is one of the major contributories to the disease glaucoma. Omega 3 can be found in such foods as fish, cabbage, broccoli and some nuts.

No-one needs to tell you just how important having healthy eyesight is, so when planning your next diet try to remember how food interacts with different parts of your body. We all want to lose those extra pounds and look good but we also want to see the results for ourselves without putting our eyesight in jeopardy.

With the Summer time comes the ‘healthy’ salad option meals, I use the word healthy very loosely. Are the people that are trying to lose weight fooling themselves into thinking that eating all that lettuce, carrots and cucumber will assist them in their weight loss?

saladsIf it were just left to those three staple ingredients (lettuce, carrots and cucumber) then it would help but
lets be honest that’s not what we call a salad, we add mayonnaise, cheese, potato salad and that’s not to mention the meat or chicken and the full cream spicy cheesy side dip, to be honest after we add all the extras to our salad it can add up to having more calories than a steak dinner with all the trimmings.

We all have to be very careful when we are on our diets, many of the things we think are good for us end up doing the exact opposite. Salads are great but we need to watch what we put into them, add in some
carbohydrates and proteins and cut down on the fat content, don’t just eat the lettuce and carrots as there is not enough to sustain our bodies, and it will go into survival mode thus storing any fat that it receives.

The way to succeed in weight loss is to eat a normal well balanced meal but in smaller portions, by all means have a side salad with low fat dressing. We all have to train our bodies into the way of healthy eating this is the only way to succeed in a successful weight loss program.

Being overweight or obese is a major problem not only in Britain but across the globe. But its not just us humans that have massive weight problems, it seems we are passing it down to our pets as well. Pet obesity has increased dramatically in the last few years, with as many as 60% of all pets in Britain & America being treated for obesity.

This not only causes a massive strain on your pets health, but a financial burden to your wallet. Pet diets are on the increase and its an extremely fast-growing market treating obese pets. However, we know its hard to refuse someone with those big droopy eyes from sneaking an extra treat at the dining table.
